Our Christmas miracle

God truly is good! He has answered our prayers, and has brought us our Christmas miracle.
Mayo clinic called today to tell us that my cousin Brenda from Colorado is a match, and she is approved to be my kidney donor! My surgery is scheduled for January 6.

I am overwhelmed. I have the most incredible family, and an amazing, supportive, loving husband. My cousin is an angel! I know how proud my grandparents would be.
Please keep us in your prayers in the coming weeks as we prepare for the surgery.

In less than 6 weeks, I will have a new chance at life. Truly amazing.

I've found that it's in our darkest hour that God shines his light the brightest for us.

Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
the darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day;
earth's joys grow dim; its glories pass away;
change and decay in all around I see;
O thou who changest not, abide with me.

I need thy presence every passing hour.
What but thy grace can foil the tempter's power?
Who, like thyself, my guide and stay can be?
Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.

I fear no foe, with thee at hand to bless;
ills have no weight, and tears not bitterness.
Where is death's sting? Where, grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if thou abide with me.

Hold thou thy cross before my closing eyes;
shine through the gloom and point me to the skies.
Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee;
in life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.

Hi Erin,
I stumbled upon your blog and just wanted to wish you good tidings for your transplant next month. My brother was in end stage renal failure and on January 8th, 2008 I donated one of mine to him. The change in him is remarkable. Within two weeks his body got rid of 20 plus pounds of toxins and edema, while still in the hospital his skin color was pinker and he looked so much better. His new creatinine hovers between 1.2 and 1.3. Mine was .7 before the surgery and is .84 now which is fantastic given that I now only have one kidney. As we approach the one year anniversary I am just so happy that I was able to help him so much. He has a renewed vigor and lots of energy. There aren't even any side effects from any of the meds he takes. We were also a 3/6 match.
Anyway, best wishes to you and your awesome cousin. I'll be thinking of you on Jan 6th. You might want to visit www.transplantbuddies.org and your cousin might like to visit www.livingdonorsonline.com

I am overwhelmed with happiness for you. I am giving you a virtual hug right now!!! Where will you be having your surgery? How long will you be hospitalized? I'm just so so happy. Love you!

PS And, although I would've given you a kidney in a heart beat, i'm glad you didn't have to wait until it got to me. :)
